Bissette and Totleben’s Swamp Thing Artist’s Edition
Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette and John Totleben was a transcendent book, arguably the first great book of the revolutionary 1980s. Certainly the preeminent horror book ever published by a mainstream comics company.
This book will be a revelation for anyone who has not seen Bissette and Totleben’s incredible original art. Bissette provided incredible pencils while the depth of Totleben’s magnificent inking was too delicate and detailed to be reproduced properly. Additionally, art will be included by Rick Veitch and others.
Although appearing to be in black and white, all the art is scanned in color, enabling the reader to see the work as close to the original as possible – ink gradients, blue pencil, and all the unique nuances that make original art so special – are all clearly visible and printed at the same size as drawn.
This is an art book disguised as a comic collection. The only better way to see these pages would be looking over Pérez’s shoulder at his drawing board!
